LOCAL
PLAYERS NAMED TO STATE ODP SOCCER TEAMS
Five players from the Owensboro United Soccer Club
were named to the Kentucky Olympic Development
Program (ODP) teams in their respective age groups.
The players include Kelsey Croft, Taylor Adams,
Megan Haycraft, Anna McNulty, MacKenzie Ward and Monica Young.
Three other local players, Morgan Miller, Luke
Stauffer and Grant Allen were also selected.
ODP
teams are formed with each of the 55 US Youth Soccer
State Associations and four regions, made up of the
best players in the various age groups. At the
state association level, pools of players are
identified in each eligible age group, brought
together as a team to develop their skill through
training and competition. From the state pools
and subsequent teams, players are identified for
regional and national pools and teams.

United Boys Place Second
in
White House
The United U11 Boys team place second in the gold
division of the White
House (TN) Spring Classic soccer tournament this
past weekend. United
posted a 2-1 win over
Lexington (KY) Classic, tied with SKY (Bowling
Green) 2-2 and fell to
Lexington Premier 3-4. Matthew Melander
and
Hayden Sovar had two goals each followed by goals by
Dakota Morgan and
Trenton Cundiff. Dakota Morgan had 3
assists and Trenton Cundiff had 1.
Blake Roberts had a total of 7 stops in goal.

UNITED
GIRLS FINALISTS IN INDY TOURNAMENT
Owensboro United U13 Girls were
finalists in the Girls U13 Green
Division in the Fishers Halloween
Classic near Indianapolis this past
weekend.
In
their first game, United tied the
St. Francis (Indianapolis) Blue
Angels 2-2 with Erin Lane and Taylor
Wingfield scoring. Hunter Nord has
an assist and Jackie Lohmann had 3
saves in goal.
United dominated ISC (Indianapolis)
Storm with an 11-0 win behind the
scoring of Emmalee Ryan with 3 goals
and Erin Cramblit and Taylor
Wingfield with 2 goals each. Erin
Lane, Hannah Tipton, Jackie Lohmann
and Taylor Fasig all had goals. Cramblit
and Wingfield also recorded assists.
United blanked Livonia (Missouri)
United 6-0 to move into the
championship bracket. Erin Lane
ripped the net for 3 goals followed
by Taylor Wingfield with 2 and
Jillian Jones with 1. Hannah Tipton
and Natalie Sapp each had an
assist. Jackie Lohmann had 1 save.
In
the championship game, United fell
to Findlay (OH) Crush 3-1. Emily
Fleming posted United’s one
score. Jackie Lohmann and Natalie
Sapp each had 2 saves in goal.

Tournament Wins
Owensboro United’s U-13 Girls
captured the championship crown of
the Owensboro Fall Cup
Classic. United secured a berth in
the championship game by defeating
St. Louis BFC Madco 1-0, Lexington
Chargers Blue 3-0 and Lexington
Chargers Gold 3-2. In the title game
United topped St. Louis BFC Madco in
a penalty kick tie breaker 1-0.
Taylor Wingfield led the scoring
over the weekend with three
goals. Erin Lane had two goals with
Emily Fleming and Erin Cramblit also
scoring. Hannah Harper had two
assists and Alexis Hunzinger had
one. Jackie Lohmann and Natalie Sapp
shared goalkeeper duties and allowed
only two goals.
United’s U-9 and U-11 Boys placed
second in the tournament.

United U11Boys Finish Strong in Louisville
Cup
Owensboro
United U11 boys made their presence known at the
Louisville United Cup Soccer tournament this past
weekend. United dominated their first two
games defeating both Northern Kentucky United and
Nelson County Cobras 7-0 before falling to
Noblesville (IN) Rowdies 2-3.
Dakota Morgan lead the scoring attack with 9 goals
followed by Hayden Sovar with 4 goals and Blake
Roberts, James Cecil and Logan Skeens with single
goals. Hayden Sovar, Kody Westerfield and
James Cecil recordedassists. Blake Roberts had
7 saves in goals.
Owensboro United placed third overall.

United U14 Girls to Play in
State Cup Semifinals
Owensboro United’s U14
Girls qualified this past weekend for
the Kentucky State Cup soccer
semi-finals to be held this Saturday and
Sunday in Lexington. This will be the
team’s third trip to the
semi-finals. Coach John Fusco and team
hope that this will be the year that a
coveted state title is brought to
Owensboro.
Winning the title
won’t come easy as United faces
Lexington FC Premier in a semi-final
match up on Saturday. The winner will
then face the victor of the Northern Ky.
United and Louisville Mockingbird game
for the championship on Sunday.
All games will be
played at the Horse Park in Lexington.
In qualifying rounds,
United tied Northern Kentucky United 1-1
on a goal by Lauren Foreman and assisted
by Katie Ryan. Keri Cromwell had 2 saves
in goal.
Jenny Abney and Shelby
Shelton found the net to lift United
over the Commonwealth Chargers
2-1. Bailey McDonough has an assist and
Keri Cromwell had 3 stops in goal.
United then shut out
JYSA 2-0 to secure their semi-final
berth. Kaylee Whitehead and Monica Young
each scored and Young also had an
assist. Keri Cromwell had 2 saves in
goal.

United U11 Girls Win
Championship
Owensboro
United’s U11 Girls team captured the championship
crown at the St. Mary’s Invitational tournament.
United completed the weekend undefeated, outscoring
their opponents 11-1.
United topped
SWISA Thunder 2-1 behind the offense of Kelsey Croft
who scored both goals for United. Nicole Ward had 4
saves and Sarah Beth Johnson 2 saves in goal.
Desirae Renfrow
found the net against Western Kentucky FC Premier as
United posted a 1-0 win. Nicole Ward had 6 saves.
United then
defeated Evansville Lady Blitz 5-0. Mackenzie
Weedman scored a hat trick (3 goals). Ally Gordon
and Haley Embry each scored as well. Nicole Ward
and Sarah Beth Johnson each had 2 saves.
In their final
game, United posted a win over Vincennes Vipers
3-0. Kelsey Croft, Mackenzie Weedman and Desirae
Renfrow scored. Nicole Ward and Alex Booker
combined for 4 saves.

United U-10 Boys
Place Second
Owensboro United
U-10 placed second in the Louisville Cup soccer
tournament this past weekend in Louisville,
Kentucky. United began the tournament with a 4-1
victory over the St. Louis (MO) Metro Strikers
behind Dakota Morgan’s 3 goal hat trick. Hayden
Sovar also scored and Trenton had one assist. Blake
Roberts had nine saves in goal.
Facing
Louisville Soccer Alliance, United battled to a 4-4
tie. Trenton Cundiff had two goals followed by
Dakota Morgan and Hayden Sovar with single goals.
Blake Roberts had four saves.
United then fell
to Louisville Mockingbird 1-3 in the last of the
preliminary games. Hayden Sovar was the lone scorer
on an assist by Dakota Morgan. Blake Roberts had 7
stops in goal.
In the
championship game, United met Louisville Mockingbird
again. Dakota Morgan and Trenton Cundiff each
scored but United came up short 4-2. Blake Roberts
had six saves.

Owensboro United Captures Nine Titles
Owensboro United
came up big in its Spring Cup soccer tournament this
past weekend by capturing six championship crowns
and three runner-up titles during the three day
event.
United’s U13,
U16 and U17 girls along with the U10, U13 and U17
boys placed at the top of their respective
divisions. While the U11 and U12 girls and the U16
boys placed second.
The U13 girls
went undefeated beating Evansville Elite 3-1, Lady
Ambush (Hopkinsville) 4-1, Lexington Chargers 8-0
and Evansville Premier 4-0. Annie Elder paced
United with 6 tournament goals followed by Paige
Kramer, Kaley Cofey, Megan Haycraft, Kortney
Osborne, Haley Potts with two goals each. Rachel
Porter, Hannah Blair and Samatha Stevens each
scored. Kaley Coffey, Laura Rao, Annie Elder,
Hannah Hoffman and Katelyn May all had two assists.
Samantha Stevens had 4 saves.
The U16 girls
posted big wins over Evansville Blitz 4-0 and
Lexington Chargers 6-1 before pulling off a 1-0
overtime win over Lebanon (TN) Soccer Club to secure
a berth in the championship game against SKY
(Southern Kentucky /Bowling Green)In the
championship, after a 0-0 deadlock in regulation
play and two overtime periods, keeper Katie Freeman
had two big stops in a shootout along with goals by
Jana Harrison and Kate Douglas to take the title
2-1. Other scorers over the weekend included Heidi
Clayton (3), Abbie Pagan (3), Kelsey Napper (2),
Mary Beth Blair (2) and Kaitlin Anderson (1) with
assists by Heidi Clayton (2), Meredith Ranney (2),
Napper (1) and Pagan (1). Katie Freeman had 9 saves
in goal.
The U17 girls
dominated play in the U17/18 division outscoring
their opponents 21-0 before topping Citadel 2-0
in the championship game. In earlier games United
blanked Henderson Flash 11-0, Lexington Chargers 5-0
and Lexington Chargers again 5-0 in the
semi-finals. Anna Gilliam led in scoring with 5
goals along with Allison Boswell and Jaylan Irwin
with 3 goals, two goals by Lauren Rostron, Katie
Overton and Jamie Roberts. Laura Nance, Danielle
Fleming, Madison Brooks, Kimmie Kauffeld, Kelsey
Cromwell and Natalie Neel had single goals.
Anna Gilliam contributed a total of five assists and
Jamie Roberts and Laura Nance had three assists.
Other assists were credited to Brittany Murphy,
Allison Boswell, Katie Overton and Jaylan Irwin. Kelsey
Cromwell had 8 saves.
United’s U10
boys easily made it to into the championship game by
defeating Vine Grove Vipers 8-2, Santa Claus, IN
Thunder 15-1 and SWISA 10-2. Facing Washington (IN)
Blitz for the championship, United came out on top
3-1. United’s scoring attack was led by Dakota
Morgan and Trenton Cundiff with 10 goals each
followed by Hayden Sovar with 4, Kody Westerfied and
Logan Skeens with three, Michael Logan with two and
Matthew Melander and James Cecil with one. Dakota
Morgan had 4 assists with two assists coming from
Trenton Cundiff, Hayden Sovar, James Cecil, and
Michael Logan. Colman Truett, Matthew Melander and
Kody Westerfield had one assist. Blake Roberts had
12 saves in goal.
In the U17 Boys
division, United captured the title with one win
and two ties in a round robin format. United
defeated Danville CKSC 6-1 and tied Lexington FC 1-1
and Vine Grove Vipers 2-2. Rob Sanders lead the
offensive effort with a total of 5 goals. Joseph
McKinley, Ian Leppke, Derek Spivey and Kyle Wood
also scored. Kyle Wood had two assists and Will
Hundley and Joseph McKinley each had one. Clay Kirn
had 11 saves in goal.

United U13 and U17 Boys Win Titles
Owensboro United U13 Boys captured the championship
title at the Veteran’s Invitational tournament in
Evansville. United dominated offensively outscoring
their opponents 13-3 during the weekend event.
In
their first match United defeated Zionsville (IN)
3-0 behind the scoring of Bradford Smith, Jacob Ward
and Sam Shipp. Mason Reynolds was credited with one
assist and Jordan Hamilton had two saves in goal.
United posted a 3-0 win over SWISA (Newburgh, IN) on
goals by Grant Pedley, Jacob Ward and Christakis
Agisilaou. Jordan Hamilton had three saves.
The
next match ended in a 1-1 tie against Brownsburg
(IN) Black Royale. United’s lone goal was made by
Jacob Ward on an assist by Christakis Agisilaou.
Jordan Hamilton had two saves.
The
championship title was claimed in an 8-2 rout of the
New Albany (IN) Patriots. Christakis Agisilaou and
Jacob Ward each found the net twice to lead the
scoring attack. United also had goals from Joel
Sallee, Nicholas Gaddey, Grant Pedley and Mason
Reynolds. Nicholas Gaddey and Joe Roberts had one
assist. Jordan Hamilton and Joe Roberts had one
assist each in goal.
In
the U17 Boys division United faced teams from four
different states in a highly competitive division.
United’s team consisted of players from five
different area high schools who were playing
together for the first time. They completed the
tournament with an overall record of 2-1-1 and
captured the runner-up title.
In
their first game, Rob Sanders and Tyler White
combined for two goals that gave United a 2-1 win
over Evansville Elite. Clay Kirn had five saves in
goal.
United shut out Cincinnati United West 2-0 with Rob
Sanders and Tyler White again providing the scoring
power. Ian Leppke had eight saves in goal.
United then fought to a 3-3 tie against West
Tennessee Select with goals by Rob Sanders, Dimitri
Mojesenko and Tyler White. Rob Sanders also had an
assist and Ian Leppke had four saves.
Campton (Chicago) Raptors handed United a 6-0 loss.
Ian Leppke and Clay Kirn combined for a total of
seven saves in goal.

United Soccer Capture Titles at Fall Cup
Owensboro United U-14 Girls, U-10 Boys and U-13 Boys
all captured championship titles in the Owensboro
Fall Cup held at Thompson Berry Soccer Complex.
United’s U-14 Boys came away with the runner-up title in
their division.
The
U-14 Girls went 3-0 for the weekend with wins over
Clarksville, TN Net Surfers 5-1, Paris, KY
Springboks 4-0 and Paducah, KY Lady Bandits 3-2.
Annie Elder lead the scoring with four goals
followed by Laura Rao with three goals. Paige
Kramer and Rachel Porter each contributed a pair of
goals and McKenzie Ward had one goal. Rachel Porter
had two assists in the effort. McKenzie Ward,
Cassie Hines, Hannah Hoffman, Megan Haycraft, Paige
Kramer and Samantha Stevens also had assists.
Hannah Blair had a total of eleven saves in goal
for the tournament.
The
U-10 Boys also went undefeated with wins over
Louisville Soccer Alliance 4-1, Paducah, KY Storm
3-2, Henderson, KY Flash 10-0 and Paducah, KY
Predators 8-1. Dakota Morgan ripped the net for
seven goals and Hayden Sovar for five goals. Kody
Westerfield and Colman Truett each had four goals,
Matthew Melander and Trenton Cundiff each had two
goals, and Logan Skeens had one goal. Michael Logan
and Dakota Morgan each had a pair of assists along
with assists from Colman Truett, Sam Hall, Hayden
Sovar and Trenton Cundiff. Michael Logan had nine
saves, Trenton Cundiff two saves and Dakota Morgan
one save in goal.
United’s
U-13 gave up only one goal in their championship
effort out-scoring their opponents 14-1. In the
championship game, United went into overtime tied
1-1 with Clarksville IN White and Christakis
Agisilaou scored in the first 10 seconds of the
overtime period for a 2-1 victory. Jacob Ward
provided United lone score in regulation and Jordan
Ratliff had four saves in the championship game.
Earlier United shut-out Paducah KY Whaler’s Catch
4-0, Lawrenceburg KY AC United 5-0 and Lawrenceburg
again in the semi-finals 3-0. United’s scoring came
from Christakis Agisilaou with six goals, Jacob Ward
with four goals, and Nikos Agisilaou and Zack Duvall
with one goal. Christakis Agisilaou and Kyle
Meadows were each contributed with an assist.
Jordan Ratliff had six saves and Jacob Ward had four
saves in goal.
The U-14 Boys secured a second place finish with a
tie against Vine Grove KY Vipers 1-1, a win over New
Albany IN SIU Patriots 5-0 and a loss to Evansville
IN Elite 0-4. Tyler Roberts had two goals along
with scores by Ross Gilliam, Jessie Wanninger, Ryan
Brewer and Griffin Fruge. Griffin Fruge had two
assists and Christos Novsiadis had one. Justin
McKay was credited with seven saves and Alex Jagoe
one save in goal.

United Claims Titles
at WHYS Fall Classic
Owensboro United’s U-10 Boys marched undefeated
through the WHYS Fall Classic in Whitehouse,
Tennessee and captured the championship crown. In
its first match, United defeated CCSA(TN) Kickers
14-1 with scoring coming from Dakota Morgan with
five, Hayden Sovar with three and single goals by
Michael Logan, Matthew Melander, Trenton Cundiff,
James Cecil, Kody Westerfield and Logan Skeens.
Michael Logan and James Cecil each had an assist.
Facing White House (TN) Storm White, Hayden Sovar
and Trenton Cundiff each found the net for a 2-1
victory. Hayden Sovar had an assist.
United then defeated White House (TN) Storm Green
5-2 with Dakota Morgan and Hayden Sovar contributing
a pair of goals each along with a single goal by
Colman Truett.
Against Germantown (TN) United, a 3-2 win was posted
that insured the championship title. Dakota Morgan
had two goals and Colman Truett one goal. Hayden
Sovar was credited with an assist and Michael Logan
had two saves in goal.
United’s U-13 Girls came away with the runner-up
title in the U-14 division after falling 0-1 in the
championship game against TUSC (Hendersonville,
TN). In earlier games, United defeated TUSC
(Hendersonville, TN) White 9-0 and Knoxvill (TN)
Cobra 3-0. Annie Elder led the scoring attack with
three goals followed closely by Paige Kramer, Rachel
Porter and Kaley Coffey with two goals each. Also
scoring were Hannah Hoffman, Lauren Daugherty,
Samantha Stevens, Megan Haycraft and Laura Rao.
Hannah Hoffman finished with three assists along
with assists by Paige Kramer, Kortney Osborne,
Victoria Whitaker, Laura Rao, Samantha Stevens and
Lauren Daugherty. In goal, Hannah Blair had eight
saves and Ashlyn Stout had four.
In
the U-11 Boys division, United received runner-up
honors after suffering a loss in the title game to
White House (TN) Storm 0-6. United had two big wins
over Brentwood (TN) Blizzard 10-0 and Germantown
(TN) Shockers 5-1. Dylan Stevens ripped the net for
five goals followed by Nick Nunley and Alec Saltsman
with three goals, Graham Gilliam with two and Blake
Roberts and James Peacock with single goals. Cole
Woodburn, Dylan Stevens and James Peacock had
assists. Travis Greene had four save and Blake
Roberts had two in goal for United.

Local Soccer Players
Make State Olympic Development Team
Six players from
Owensboro United Soccer Club have made the final
cuts for the Kentucky Olympic Development Program (ODP)
teams. These players will travel to regional camps
to compete for the State of Kentucky in their
respective age groups. Participating in the Boys
Regional Camps to be held in Rockford, Illinois are
Griffin Fruge and Ross Gilliam both on the 1991 Team
and Christakis Agisilaou for the 1992 Team.
Selected for the Girls Teams are Anna Gilliam, 1989
Team, and Monica Young, 1991 Team, which will play
in Dekalb, Illionois. Laura Nance was selected as
an alternate on the 1989 Girls Team.
The Olympic
Development Program identify and advance the most
talented and passionate youth players through state,
regional, and national team selection and
competitions. US Youth Soccer is divided into four
regions, each offering a regional camp for state
association ODP teams in each eligible age group.
The camps are designed to provide high level
competition and training for participating players.
During this training and competition, players who
are capable of performing at a higher level of play
are identified for possible national team camp,
pool, or team participation.

United Wins Big at
Southern Kentucky Invitational
Owensboro United Soccer
Club had an impressive showing this past weekend at
the SOKY Invitational Tournament in Bowling Green.
Two teams earned championship titles and four teams
placed second.
United's U16 Girls went
undefeated in tournament play to capture the
Championship by defeating Evansville Premier 4-0,
Evansville Lady Blitz 1-0, Evansville Premier 2-0
and Clarksville (IN) Lady Royals 6-0. Jaylan Irwin
was top scorer with 4 goals. Other scorers were
Anna Gilliam with 3, Laura Nance with 3 and single
goals by Ashley Smith, Katie Overton and Jamie
Roberts. Katie Overton had one assist. Keeper
Kelsey Cromwell had 7 stops.
Another championship title
was claimed by United’s U10 Girls in a double
overtime victory over FCE Stingers (Evansville) 1-0
on a winning goal by Kelsey Croft. In earlier play,
United tied the FCE Stingers 1-1 and defeated SKY
(Bowling Green) Futbol Club 2-0 and the White House
(TN) Lady Storm 1-0. Kelsey Croft and MacKenzie
Weedman each had two goals and Desirae Winfrow
finished with one goal. Ally Gordon and Kelsey
Croft both had assists in the effort. Sarah Beth
Johnson, Desirae Winfrow, Alex Booker combined for
ten saves in goal.
United U15 Girls posted
wins over WC United (Lebanon, OH) 1-0, Evansville
Lady Blitz 2-1 and Western Kentucky Futbol Club 1-0
before falling to Brentwood (TN) Pride in the
championship game 0-3. United was led in scoring by
Mary Beth Blair and Kelsey Napper with two goals
each. Napper also had one assist. Katie Freeman
had a total of nine stops in goal during the
weekend.
United's U15 Boys mounted an
impressive offensive attack to make it to the
championship game. United defeated AC United
(Anderson, IN) 6-2, Avon (IN) Select Gold 5-1 and
Madisonville Mayhem 5-3 and then lost to Sky (Bowlling
Green) Futbol Club 2-7 in the championship. United's
scoring power came from Austin Elder with five
goals; Brett Gish and Austin Moman with four goals;
Austin Moman with three goals; and Kyle Naviaux and
Forrest Whitworth with one goal each. Brett Gish
and Austin Moman each had two assists along with
assists by Dale Stevens, Ryan Melander, Sam Waninger
and Kyle Naviaux. Nick Hoffman had fourteen saves
and Brandon Thomas two saves in goal.
In the U10 Boys
division, United secured wins over Nelson County
Elite 6-2, Southern Indiana United 3-2, and
Whitehouse (TN) Storm 2-1. Then in the championship
game, fell just short to SKY (Bowling Green) Futbol
Club 3-4. Grant Allen and Zac Garrard led all
scorers with four goals each. Dylan Stevens and
Nick Nunley had two goals along with single goals by
Matthew Hardy and Cole Woodburn. Cole Woodburn and
Dylan Stevens had two assists along with assists by
Grant Allen and Nick Nunley. Zac Garrard and Grant
Allen combined for 17 saves in goal.

United Soccer Teams Dominant in PUMA Shootout
Owensboro United teams came up big at the Smyrna,
Tennessee PUMA Spring Shootout the weekend of March
18-20. In fact, so big, that tournament officials
referred to the tournament as “Owensboro south”.
The tournament was hosted by the Stones River Futbol Club. Two teams secured championships and
five teams came away finalists, placing as
runners-up in their respective age divisions.
United’s
U-11 Girls/White teams posted convincing wins for
the championship crown over Cleveland (TN) Lady
Flames 4-1; Brentwood (TN) Eclipse, 5-0; and Hixson
(TN) MV Magic 5-1. Scoring was led by Hannah Tipton
and Erin Thomas each with four goals, followed by
Taylor Fasig with three goals and single goals by
Taylor Wingfield, Taylor Adams and Erin Cramblit.
Olivia Winstead and Taylor Wingfield each had an
assist. During the tournament Natalie Sapp had one
save and Hannah Tipton had two.
United’s
U-10 Girls also won championship honors with an
undefeated record with wins over Hixson (TN) Magic
1-0; SRFC (Smyrna, TN) Rapids, 2-1; and Brentwood
(TN) Soccer Club 3-0. Kelsey Croft ripped the net
for all six of United’s scores. Ally Gordon had two
assists followed by assists by Mackenzie Weedman,
Sarah Beth Johnson, Kaitlin Ryan and Haley Embry.
Alex Booker had five saves, Nicole Ward three saves
and Desirae Renfrow and Sarah Beth Johnson each
stopped two.
United’s
U-16 had two wins and a tie before falling to
Greeneville (TN) Galaxy 2-3 in a decisive game that
placed them as runners-up in the tournament. In
earlier games, United defeated Murfreesboro (TN) 2-0
and Marshall County (KY) 2-0 and fought to a tie
against Knoxville (TN) Crossfire 0-0. Laura Nance
led all scorers with three goals followed by Katie
Overton with two and Allison Boswell with one.
Meredith Alvey had two assists in addition to
assists by Natalie Neel, Anna Gilliam and Jaylan
Irwin. Kelsey Cromwell had fourteen saves in goal.
Going undefeated into the championship game, United’s U-15 girls posted wins over Jackson (TN)
Slammers 2-0; Lexington (KY) Futbol Club 1-0; and
SRFC (Smyrna, TN) Spirit 3-1 before falling to
Northern Kentucky United 4-1. United’s scoring came
from Abbie Pagan with three goals along with goals

In
the U-14 Girls division, United won two out of three
games and placed second overall for the tournament.
United defeated SRFC (Smyrna, TN) Rapids 4-0;
Jackson (TN) Lady Flyers 1-0; and fell to Louisville
Mockingbird 0-5. Markie Dohrenwend had two goals
and Raven Fleming, Emily Butler and Hannah Ison each
had one. Dohrenwend also had two assists in the
effort. Kristin Roberts had nine saves in goal and
Crystal Haire four.
Finishing round robin play with a 2-1-1 record,
United’s U-12 Girls placed second with wins over
Bellevue (TN) Lady Hurricanes 3-0 and Goodlettsville
(TN) TUSC 1-0. United tied Chattanooga (TN) Express
Amazons 0-0 and lost to Evansville (IN) Lady Blitz
0-1. Audrey Taylor had two goals along with goals
from Samantha Stevens and Annie Elder. Hannah
Hoffman had three assists and Paige Kramer had one.
Hannah Blair had ten saves in the effort.
United’s
U-10 boys recorded wins over SRFC (Smyrna, TN)
Rapids 3-2 and Whitehouse (TN) Storm 2-1 and fell to
Knoxville (TN) Celtic 1-7. In the championship game
United bounced back going to the wire with Knoxville
Celtic for the title before falling short 2-3.
United’s scoring effort came from Grant Allen with
four goals followed by Dylan Stevens and Nick Nunley
with two each. Ac Garrard, Matthew Hardy, Cole
Woodburn and Dylan Stevens had single assists. In
goal, Zac Garrard had fifteen saves and Grant Allen
had fourteen.

United to Host Eurosport in Owensboro
The Board of the Kentucky Youth Soccer Association (KYSA)
has announced that Owensboro (Kentucky) will be site
of the 2005 Eurosport Challenge Cup Tournament,
June 4-5 and 11-12. This will be the third
tournament planned for Owensboro during the year and
hosted by the United Soccer Club, the select or
competitive division of Green River Area Soccer
In making the
announcement, Dave McIver, Program Manager, KYSA,
stated that they are excited to be in Owensboro, “
The Kentucky Youth Soccer Association is pleased to
partner with the United Soccer Club to host the 2005
Eurosport Challenge Cup. We hope this event will
bring excitement to the soccer community and help
the sport continue to grow in Western Kentucky. It
is great to have the opportunity to bring a state
run event back to Owensboro."
Chuck Melander, president of GRAS, expressed his
appreciation to the City of Owensboro for its effort
at Thompson Berry Complex, “The City has been an
essential partner in developing Thompson Berry into
a facility that can provide a high quality
environment for soccer. The addition of the new
county soccer complex will provide much needed space
for the growing sport of soccer and will serve to
open up new opportunities for the community.” Scott
Pulliam, Executive Director of USC, expects
approximately 90 high quality teams from across the
state. “Some of the best teams from Kentucky will
be competing at Thompson Berry. Over the past
couple of years we have gotten the attention of
state officials with our tournament management and
facilities. We are hoping to host the older age
brackets when the county fields are complete.” The
event will feature the ages groups of U9-U12 for
both boys and girls. Semifinals will be held during
the second weekend. Older aged teams will compete
in the Kentucky State Cup tournament that will take
place in Lexington in May.
Not only is the local
group wooing the state wide soccer community with
its facilities, Tournament Director John Allen plans
to make this year’s Eurosport Cup one that the
participants will not forget. “We are rolling out
the red carpet for the teams coming to Owensboro
featuring activities on the riverfront and the
appearance of world renowned soccer entertainer Mr.
Woo. Whether or not you have ever seen a soccer
game, Mr. Woo’s incredible show is a must see.”
Attendance to all the games and activities are open
to the public and are free of charge.
Burley Phelan, Executive
Director, Owensboro Daviess County Tourist
Commission, emphasized the local impact of the
tournament economically stating that tournaments
such as this bring in large dollars to the
community. According to Phelan this tournament
alone will have a total direct economic impact of
close to $1.6 million over the two weekends of play
and $2.6 million indirectly. Combined with the
Owensboro Spring Cup to be held in June and the Fall
Cup planned for October, soccer is projected to
account for $3.5 million directly and $5.9 million
indirectly bringing in close to 21,000 visitors to
the area. Approximately 7,900 visitors are expected
for the Eurosport tournament alone.
