The Club sponsors the
United Spring Cup that is held in the spring.
This quality tournament attracts teams from many
states and provides some terrific competition. Mia
Hamm, parachuters, coaches’ games, concerts and laser shows
are just a few of the added attractions featured in
past tournaments. Divisions include age groups from
U9 to U18.
Another highly successful tournament is the
Owensboro Fall Cup. This tournament is held for
younger teams U9-U14.
In June 2005,
United for the first time hosted the Kentucky
Eurosport Cup in partnership with the Kentucky Youth
Soccer Association. The response was fantastic
and we continue to be the host site and club ever
since.
Make plans to participate in or visit one of our
outstanding tournaments and experience first hand a
bit of southern hospitality filled with bluegrass,
barbeque and soccer.

2008 Owensboro Spring
Cup - A Big Success
With
earthquakes earlier in the week prior to the 2008
Spring Cup, tournament directors Deana Brewer and
Carol WIngfield, literally got a little shaky.
If they didn't have enough worries about the weather
and tournament organization, they had never thought
about an earthquake! But everything began and ended
smoothly. Damp and cool weather on Saturday
gave way to warm sunny skies on Sunday.
Approximately 130 teams were on hand and over 280
games were played throughout the weekend. For the
first time, the Horse Fork Soccer Complex was also
used along with the Thompson Berry Complex.
The Coaches game was fun and entertaining on
Saturday evening and many left with doorprizes
including iPods and Wii Game Stations. The evening
was just a small way for Owensboro United to say
thank-you for selecting our tournament. We
hope to see you again this fall for the Fall Cup and
for the Spring Cup in 2009.
We extend our many,
many thanks to fans, friends and volunteers who made
this weekend a great success. And last but not least
– thanks to each of the teams who participated in
the 2008 Spring Cup. While only a few walked
away with championship trophies, everyone walked
away a winner.
We Salute our Tournament Volunteers
There are so many people to thank that it seems
impossible to do and to do an adequate job.
Countless hours from parents, coaches, players and
friends contributed greatly to the overwhelming
success of both our tournaments. Additionally the
support we received from our sponsors and supporters
was critical and indeed appreciated. Without the
support of all these groups and individuals, the
tournaments would not be possible.
A
very special thanks goes to Deana Brewer and Carol
Wingfield, tournament co-directors,
and the tournament committee. They planned and
organized a first-class tournament filled with great
competition, fun and excitement. We are all
very grateful to them for their hard work and
dedication to youth soccer and especially to
Owensboro United Soccer Club.
Tournament Comments:
The following
are sample emails that we have received:
"Just
want to tell you thanks and
congratulate you on a great
tournament!!! This was our first
visit to Owensboro and it was a
great experience. We usually travel
in the St. Louis area (we are from
Marion, IL) but decided to give
yours a try. I think we all would
be more than willing to come back.
Your town is wonderful, the
tournament was ran great!!!! And
everyone was super nice. The
excellent weather helped too!! Haha
But honestly those of us from
Marion just wanted you to know what
a great job you all did I think your
tourney was a huge success. Hope to
go back soon."
"I was
wondering if you had the dates (or
approximate dates) for the fall
soccer tourney in Owensboro.
I have 2 girls select teams ... and
everyone says that we really need to
go to an Owensboro Tournament
because they are just fantastic."

During the past Spring Cups teams not only
competed for division championships, but
soccer clubs competed for the coveted
Club Challenge Cup. This club competition
was a competition designed to
recognize the achievements and play of soccer
clubs competing in the tournament.
The competition was scored by awarding points for
the number of teams that a club has
participating in the tournament, the wins and
ties posted for each club’s teams, and the
number of championship and finalist results
achieved during the tournament.
Eligibility in the club Cup Challenge
requires a minimum of four teams from a soccer
club. Owensboro United was not eligible for
the Club Cup competition.
